The most psychedelic of orchestras are back, after sell-out shows cover Bowie/Ennio Morricone/Film and TV soundtracks, this time they are bringing the Brazilian sunshine to the Curzon stage…
Arising in the late 1960s, the idea of the Tropicália (or Tropicalismo) artistic movement was to fuse traditional Brazilian music and rhythms with Western rock, pop and psychedelia and the results still sounds fresh and exciting today. The chief protagonists were a group of musician from Bahia and São Paulo, notably Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Tom Zé, Os Mutantes and the great arranger Rogério Depart, among others. They went on to produce the 1968 album Tropicália: ou Paris et Cirencis, which served as the movement’s manifesto.
The Fantasy Orchestra are a +70piece orchestra and choir which formed in 2012 with a set of Ennio Morricone covers. Since then they’ve done sets of many other artists and genres including Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Radiohead, and Electronica, and now they are excited to attempt an interpretation of the Tropicalia songbook as part of their mission to bring about World Peace One Note at a Time.
