We are delighted to welcome acclaimed singer-songwriter Muco to launch Clevedon’s new music festival, Amplify! This will also be the opening event in the seventh season of our curated programmes here at the Curzon.
Muco is a singer, songwriter and composer of British-Burundian heritage whose music is shaped by a love of language and storytelling. He specialises in reimagining medieval folk songs and poetry in Middle and Old English, alongside original songs inspired by myth and folklore. His latest projects, Summer Crossing and Book of Voices, blend influences from his dual heritage, pairing Middle English lyrics with the music of the Inanga (a traditional zither from Burundi and Rwanda). Muco crafts performances that honour historical and folk traditions while resonating with modern audiences, offering an evocative blend of past and present. His work not only revives these ancient pieces for contemporary listeners but also expands ideas of historical musical performance. He seeks not to recreate the past, but to make its voices understood in a new time.
His latest projects, Soþlice and Summer Crossing, combine lyrics and influences from Old, Middle and Modern English, as well as French, Swahili and Kirundi, reflecting his deep interest in the connections between folk traditions across cultures.
“Muco is a true modern-day mediaeval bard.”
