Staff & Trustees

The Curzon cinema has been at the centre of life in Clevedon since 1912, and its staff, trustees, volunteers and patrons are the backbone that keep this glorious asset alive and thriving.

Team Curzon consists of a staff of 13, steered by 8 valuable Trustees that form our charity board and supported by a fantastic team of over 100 volunteers. We are always happy to welcome new volunteers.

We are also lucky to have the support of some extremely well-respected patrons who act as ambassadors, promoting the Curzon to the wider world, generously sharing their expertise with us and donating in kind support:

Trustees

David Sheridan (Chair) qualified as a solicitor in 1980 and was Managing Partner of Wards Solicitors for 26 years. He has wide experience of management including staff, marketing and premises matters as well as legal understanding of leases, the property market and company law. He was previously a long-standing trustee of Citizens’ Advice North Somerset and Chair of North Somerset Community Legal Service. David has long been interested in the Arts, especially film.

Daniel Cheesman (Treasurer) has over twenty years of experience in the charity sector, supporting children, families, disability, and equality causes. Currently the CEO of Jessie May, he previously led the disability charity Paul’s Place and the LGBTQ+ charity Switchboard. Committed to making a difference, Daniel prioritises collaboration and partnership to drive change. Outside his professional life, he lives in Bristol with his partner and two rescue dogs and is a ‘want-to-be’ runner. As a Trustee of Curzon Cinema and Arts, Daniel is dedicated to promoting arts and culture within the community.

Katie Clementson-Lee is a seasoned professional fundraiser with over 16 years’ experience across diverse charity sectors, including healthcare, hospice, refugee support, social justice, international development, and arts and heritage. She has successfully raised millions for various causes and has developed extensive expertise in charity management and governance. As a fundraising consultant since 2020, Katie provides strategic fundraising support to organisations like the Institute of Art & Ideas, Bristol Refugee Rights, Temwa, and Weston Hospicecare. In her role as a Trustee of Curzon Cinema & Arts, Katie is dedicated to supporting this unique, community-owned, independent cinema with fundraising advice and support.

Dr Charlotte Crofts is Professor of Cinema Arts at UWE Bristol, where she leads the BAFTA Albert Educational Partnership for Sustainable Filmmaking. As a filmmaker and creative producer, she works across film, locative media, and festival curation, notably directing the Cary [Grant] Comes Home Festival, which celebrates screen heritage and cinematic tourism. Charlotte has developed location-based apps, including the Curzon Memories App, and published extensively on film heritage, adaptation, and digital transitions in cinema. She co-founded the Angela Carter Society and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Screenworks, an open access publication of research in film and screen media. As a Trustee, Charlotte brings expertise in sustainable filmmaking, digital storytelling, and community engagement.

Nigel Dyke was a Director at Alec French Architects for many years where he led major public and commercial projects in Bristol, including Quakers Friars and the Grade II listed City Hall refurbishment for Bristol City Council. With expertise in low-energy design, adaptive reuse, and workspace innovation, Nigel brings a wealth of architectural insight to the Curzon Cinema & Arts as Trustee. Nigel is active in Bristol’s design community, serving on the Bristol Urban Design Forum’s Steering Group and as an Honorary Business Fellow at UWE Bristol. He is Chair of Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust.

Jeremy Hayward is an accomplished senior executive with extensive board-level experience in corporate governance, growth strategy, and diversity initiatives. With a background in leading transformational strategies at Lloyds Banking Group, he has driven impactful customer experience improvements, streamlined operations, and enhanced diversity through strategic initiatives. Jeremy served as Lloyds’ ambassador for Southwest England, managing relations with politicians, media, and influencers to champion community prosperity.

David Turner has served as a senior Town and Country Planner with District, County, and Unitary Authorities across the South East and South West of England. Passionate about economic and social regeneration, he has helped communities achieve their goals, emphasizing the Arts’ role in enhancing community vibrancy and purpose. David sees the Curzon as a catalyst for North Somerset’s cultural renewal, fostering creativity and shared experiences. He sees culture as a powerful tool to connect people and revitalize community spirit and engagement.
