A classic Shakespearean romantic tragedy for the screen, seriously updated. The setting – a post-modern city named Verona Beach. In this version, the Capulets and the Montagues are two rival gangs. Juliet is attending a costume ball thrown by her parents. Her father Fulgencio Capulet has arranged her marriage to the boorish Paris as part of a strategic investment plan. Romeo attends the masked ball and he and Juliet fall in love.
Romeo & Juliet is part of the Purl + Seam strand. Doors open at 9.30am, for a 10am start. The lights will left on low as we invite you to bring any sewing/knitting/crochet/stitching style craft projects with you to work on. Relaxed enough to share the laughs. This strand is in collaboration with Spinning Wheal, with textile artist and teacher Ellie Murray staying on after the film for you to continue the chat / stitching / film natters in the Oak Room bar.
