This event is part of Bristol Refugee Festival: join us for a culturally engaging evening of life stories, live music and glorious food as we celebrate World Refugee Day at a time when it feels more needed than ever.
Inspired by Somerset Storyfest’s One Tree – Many Branches Schools’ Refugee Project, tonight will offer a personal insight into the lives of four people who have settled in the UK after being forced to leave their homelands of Sudan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Turkey/ Kurdistan for very different reasons. With Ozcan Ates, Tahmina Kousar, Ali Elmubarak, Suhela Aktar and director of Somerset Storyfest, Michael Loader.
These are real people sharing personal stories of their lived experience; the arts can be at its best when used to build empathy and connection, so let’s come together and reach past the sensational headlines and listen to the truth behind immigration, putting our shared humanity back at the forefront.
Doors open at 6.30pm – please arrive on time but not early as we will be setting up. Food will be served straight away in the bar on a first-come-first-served basis. The Clevedon School catering department have been busy, working with their students from all over the world to create a taster menu of nibbles from different countries.
