This season of Classic & Cuppa has been curated by Curzon Cinema And Arts’ Chair of Trustees, David Sheridan: “These are the movies that made a real impression when I first saw them and have stayed with me over time. They are not often seen on the big screen where they belong, so these will be rare showings. They are very varied but all classics.”

Secrets, lies and vendettas abound in this rural Provençal drama, the sequel to lauded Jean de Florette (screening Tue 4 Jun). Young shepherdess Manon has lost her father and seen her family’s livelihood ruined by the greediness of her neighbours.

Now grown and living in isolation from the village, she plots revenge against the men for their misdeeds – and her retribution, set against an aptly harsh and unforgiving landscape, will not be deterred.
