Following the ‘mind-blowing’ event curated by Raise the Bar back in June; this is another collaboration you won’t want to miss. Two incredibly talented and multifaceted headlining artists plus support from the RTB crew. This is no ordinary poetry or spoken word night, this is the epitome of taking it ‘Off The Page’ (one of our new strands of events that brings a love of language and literature to the Curzon stage in a multitude of forms).
Dizraeli:
Rapper, producer, firestarter. Songwriter, multi instrumentalist-raconteur… Dizraeli is a genre of his own. From his debut solo album Engurland (City Shanties) to touring the world and releasing the acclaimed Moving In The Dark with The Small Gods, on the way collaborating with artists as diverse as Nubiyan Twist, Kae Tempest, Jam Baxter and Eliza Carthy… and releasing his solo masterpiece The Unmaster, nominated for Album of the Year by Gilles Peterson in the 2020 Worldwide Awards… Diz has always forged his own way.
2023 sees Dizraeli publish his first book on the Continuous Breath imprint : Animal Noises, a collection of lyrics, diary entries, experimental writings and surreal illustrations drawn from the margins of his notebooks. Animal Noises is a searingly honest exploration of the mess of human creation, and it bursts with life : think Dylan Thomas meeting Black Thought at a John Cage concert, and you’re halfway there.
For the Animal Noises tour, Diz strips his craft to the bones, sharing writings on fatherhood, sex and the end of the world with that ferociously sharp lyricism and sense of the absurd that is his trademark.
Bellatrix:
There are multifaceted artists, and then there’s Bellatrix. A spellbinding singer and instinctively expressive songwriter, a multi-instrumentalist, a versatile performer and former world beatboxing champion, Bellatrix complements artistic wholeness with an inventive, all-encompassing and hands-on creative vision that can’t help but resonate.
Starting out as the first professional female beatboxer in the UK, Bellatrix – who now identifies as non-binary – has been a trailblazer in their field and is a fierce advocate for those who are under-represented in their communities. Bellatrix has since made their name as both a solo artist and a highly sought after collaborator, touring internationally and performing at many of the top festivals and venues across the world.
Bellatrix is currently playing bass for Grammy nominated artist NAO, releasing and performing “avant-punk-pop” music as a solo artist, and hosting a monthly radio show on Soho Radio called “Goldenear”.
In this incarnation of Bellatrix’s live show they will bring their music to life through live looping, including beatboxing, singing, bass guitar, double bass, synth, and uke. Come and take part in a sonic journey through the delicate, the fierce and some serious bass.
