Across five continents and seven of the world’s most brutal channels, Australian swimmer Mark Sowerby* takes on the Oceans Seven, an ordeal as unforgiving as Everest, but in open water. No cage. No wetsuit. No escape. Just man against Mother Nature.
Following the screening, coach Tim Denyer and swimmer Mark Sowerby will host a live discussion to share insights from this decade-long journey. The conversation focuses on the discipline required to turn anguish into purpose and the total surrender of control necessary to navigate crossings fraught with danger. Our panel-host will be Rowan Clarke; Rowan is an open water swimmer, coach, outdoor swimming expert, and Features Writer for Outdoor Swimmer magazine.
After a life-changing event leaves him struggling with uncertainty, coach Tim Denyer pushes Mark to turn anguish into purpose. To survive, he must keep his stroke rate consistent, don’t splash too much, and keep his heart rate down – Don’t Be Prey.
Over a decade of relentless pursuit, from the icy Irish Sea to the shark-patrolled waters of Hawaii, Mark pushes human endurance to its limits. What unfolds is not only a quest for survival but a profound journey of resilience and healing.
*Pre event swim trips are (safely) encouraged! Treat yourself to a slice of cake to watch the film with and stay for the Q&A as we join the coach (Tim) and the swimmer (Mark) for an honest look at what it really takes to face the deep and return to the shore.
Please note: doors open at 1:30pm and there will be stalls and conversation in the bar before the screening starts at 2pm
