This halloween we are celebrating Edgar Wright’s biggest influences, before our mammoth Cornetto Trilogy immersive event (Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz/The World’s End) in November.
Terrifying, and funny in equal measures, An American Werewolf in London has been cited by Edgar Wright as being his ‘screen epiphany’, providing a large source of inspiration, especially for Shaun of the Dead with it’s blend of horror, comedy, and relatable characters.
“There’s something about this movie that cast a kind of spell on me, and it’s really influenced a lot of my work. I love how it manages to do several things: it’s laugh-out-loud funny; it’s genuinely very scary, but it’s got a lot of heart as well. You really care about the people in it. It’s a horroranda comedy. I think that with it John Landis made one of the first pop culture-savvy films. It’s incredibly idiosyncratic and there are jokes in there that wouldn’t appear in anybody else’s work.” – Edgar Wright in the Observer.
A cult classic, back on the big screen for one night only, don’t spill your popcorn.
