“Strike: An Uncivil War” is the perfect choice to kick off our next season, especially given the social and political challenges our country continues to face today. This film not only resonates with the issues of the 1980s but also serves as a powerful conversation starter for our audience.
The film recently won the Audience Award at the Sheffield Documentary Festival, Strike’s themes of civil rights, social justice, and political reform explored in the film are as relevant today as ever, making this screening particularly poignant. This is our first partnership with Bristol Radical History Group and they will have a stall outside the bar selling their books/booklets from 7pm.
To enrich the experience, we’ll also be showing the short film “Battling for Bristol,” a ten-minute exploration of the city’s radical past. Following the screenings, there will be a Q&A session with David Donovan, a miner from the Dulais Valley during the strike, whose story was depicted in the film “Pride.” David played a crucial role in connecting striking Welsh miners with the London Lesbian and Gays Support Group. In partnership with the Bristol Radical History Group, this event marks the exciting beginning of our third season!
