We are delighted to announce that Garfield Weston Foundation have awarded Curzon Cinema and Arts grant funding of £25,000 to support our community events programme. Over the last few years, we have been working hard to diversify our artistic offering with a wide range of live music, comedy, spoken word, author talks and Q&As delivered in partnership with local organisations and schools. The continued support from Garfield Weston Foundation (who also gave generously to our roof renovation a few years ago) will enable us to grow and develop this transformative charitable work.

Our aim in everything we do is to be a beacon of inclusive creativity across North Somerset. Over the past 12 months we have engaged over 6,000 people in our curated programme including 270 school students, 211 performers and speakers, and over 100 volunteers. We have involved people from our community in the project as collaborative programmers, speakers, artists, performers, and as audience members. Wherever possible we have either prioritised local artists or ones with a national reach. Our programming strategy values collaboration and over the last year we have presented work with 15 different local organisations including Sustainable Clevedon, Clevedon School, Clevedon Literature Festival, The Rock Project, Bristol Radical History Group, Bristol Museums and Galleries, Books on the Hill, and many more.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can read all about our upcoming programme of events in our Season Four brochure (also available in a rather nice printed copy available from the cinema).

Established in 1958, the Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded grant-maker that gives money to support a wide variety of charities across the UK. The Foundation’s funding comes from an endowment of shares in the Weston family business – a successful model that still exists today. The Weston family have a consistent aim. The more successful the family businesses, the more money the Foundation can donate.

Each year the Foundation gives away its income and donations have continued to grow. Since it was established it has donated over £1.5 billion, of which over half has been given away in the past ten years. In the most recent financial year the Foundation gave away over £100 million to just under 1,800 charities across the UK.

We are extremely grateful to the Garfield Weston Foundation Trustees for their continued support of the Curzon.
