Front Room Cinema, in a home near you!

Front Room Cinema, the Curzon’s outreach film experience, continues into the Autumn

Thanks to a grant from Quartet Community Foundation, in association with St Monica's Trust, Curzon Cinema & Arts is putting on a series of films in residential and care homes in Clevedon and wider North Somerset.

Volunteers, dressed in the traditional Curzon livery, will set up a large screen and serve popcorn to allow a real cinema experience for people who aren’t able to get to the Curzon.

The grant of over £5,000 has allowed the cinema to invest in a short throw projector and pop-up screen, with a sound system and hearing loop. Front Room Cinema will also be able to buy a van to carry the projection kit further out into rural North Somerset.

Homes are invited to choose from a range of films and in the pilot last year, they enjoyed films like ‘Billy Elliott’, The Lady in the Van’, 'Philomena' and ‘Singin’ in the Rain’.

St Brigas, a residential care home in Clevedon for adults with learning disabilities, was more than happy with their screening of ‘Grease’: “It was much better than expected, we knew it would be good but it outdid our expectations! The Cinema staff were brilliant, very friendly and patient.”

Curzon CEO, Susannah Shaw said: “I’m so pleased this outreach project has taken off, and am grateful to the St Monica Trust and Quartet for facilitating this opportunity for members of the community that can’t experience the magic of the big screen.”

Residential homes interested in holding a screening should contact Jan Doran via or call 01432 851982 / 07587 153 384.
