Curzon Cinema & Arts has recently missed out on a vital restoration grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. In their letter to us HLF stated that: “Demands for our funds means that we cannot support every good application that achieves the outcomes of this programme. Our Board of Trustees considered that your project was well planned, was a good fit for strategic priorities and would be likely to meet our outcomes for support strongly.” In other words, they loved the project, but could only fund 4 out of 28 applications. Unlucky. We are now looking into alternative ways of restoring our beautiful cinema, and will shortly reveal our new fundraising campaigns.
Of vital importance is the restoration of the roof, with fragile tiles that are nearly 100 years old, currently letting water in to parts of the building. Along with the scaffolding and other external work to the building we are looking at a total bill of around £800,000. We want to assure you that every penny you donate and have donated already to the Curzon will be going towards the restoration of the cinema. Watch this space for other updates on saving the Curzon.
