The Season of Folk Horror: Midsommar

This Halloween we are exploring the sub-genre of Folk-Horror. Three evenings across the end of October dedicated to movies that explore our fear of nature, unknown history and our own dark humanity. From the mind of 2018’s unforgettable Hereditary, Ari Aster’s latest film takes influence from such cult classics as Blood on Satan’s Claw and The Wicker Man (also showing in our season) to deliver a beautiful nightmare that demands to be seen on the big screen.

The story follows a young couple visiting an isolated Swedish village; over the course of their vacation, they discover that its residents participate in an eccentric set of seasonal traditions. The recent death of the main character’s parents casts a sense of dread over the proceedings. Starring Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth, The Falling, Fighting with my Family), Will Poulter (Black Mirror, The Maze Runner, Son of Rambow) and Jack Raynor (Sing Street, Macbeth, Glassland).
