Cinema Rediscovered Presents… Soylent Green + intro from Dr Peter Walsh

In Cinema Rediscovered’s theme of Gluttony, Decadence and Resistance this year we have Richard Fleischer’s eerily prescient 70s sci-fi classic. In a not-too-distant future with population levels almost at breaking point where fresh food has all but disappeared, and strawberry jam costs more than gold, the promise of a new food source has the potential to save humanity. But all is not as it seems, and a grisly assassination leads a New York detective (Charlton Heston) down a path of conspiracy and murder. Will the truth be buried in the archives of the past, or can the detective survive long enough to break the shocking story?

We are joined by Dr Peter Walsh who will be introducing this classic piece of science fiction (which also happens to be one of his favourite films).

Cinema Rediscovered returns to Bristol and the surrounding region for a fourth year, bringing the finest digital restorations, contemporary classics and film print rarities back where they belong, on the big screen at cinemas including Watershed and Curzon Cinema & Arts.
