Volunteer

The cinema relies on the support of a wonderful team of dedicated volunteers, from the archivers who research and catalogue our collection of cinema heritage artefacts to the ushers who greet our customers.

With our film programme, special events, guided tours and maintenance work we have a variety of opportunities for volunteers. We welcome people from age 14 and up: however we are currently at full capacity for Front of House positions and can therefore only accept applications for Tour Guides/Maintenance/Archive/Front Room Cinema/Fundraising Support at the moment. In return, as well as getting to watch the latest films for free; we offer full training, a welcoming, social environment, the chance to contribute to the continuation of this historically important cinema.

Volunteer roles include
Front of house

The lifeblood of the cinema. Our Front of House staff rely on a supportive team of ushers, kiosk and bar volunteers, who help run each screening smoothly.

Tour guides

Whether it’s a public tour for Heritage Open Days or a private tour for a school or community group; Tour Guides are ready to share our story and engage customers with a rich and fascinating history.

Maintenance / DIY

Our maintenance team work every Friday morning, a band of merry painters, joiners and all ’round DIY-ers that help keep the good ship Curzon afloat.

Archive / Research

We are proud of our extensive paper archive and collection of cinematic artefacts that help tell the story of the history of cinema as well as the Curzon itself. Our Archive team are a huge asset and we always welcome extra expertise in this area.

Front room cinema

Front Room Cinema is run by a small but passionate team who take films out to care and residential homes. Giving those who can’t come out to the cinema, a flavour of the Curzon experience.

Fundraising support

As a charity, we often depend on fundraising campaigns, and value the supporters, that allow us to keep the building operational. If you would like to help with fundraising, please get in touch.

What our volunteers say

“Volunteering at the Curzon makes me feel part of the effort to keep a functioning cinema (and developing arts centre now) in Clevedon. I enjoy the social element too.”

“It’s inspiring to work amongst so much local history. I feel very proud of the Curzon.”

“It’s great to be part of this ever-evolving organisation. So worthwhile.”

“There’s a sense of family that doesn’t exist with large chain cinemas, and it’s in a beautiful place. The building is so pretty. I sometimes forget between visits and it hits me all over again.”
