Originating from the designs
of Andre DeBrie the projectors were favoured by the British
Government and were in use by the Armed Forces world-wide.
This was likely due to its ‘unit’ construction
enabling easy maintenance by replacement of unserviceable
components. Simple to operate with the two large sprockets
and and the swing film gate it had a light output of 750watts
though this could be increased to 1000watts.
The powerful motor also cools
the lamp. For lubrication oil is pumped around the bearings
and shafts etc. and this could be seen by the reservoir
over the projection head. One problem was with this system
as oil could escape, all over the film path. A superb
projector even so. There is also an earlier black version
which can be seen in the collection. 1947 (these models).
